Mission Briefing
"We’ve received an encrypted message from one of our Rebel Operative teams in the Argus system. They were engaged in covert reconaissance of Imperial facilities in a nearby asteroid field.
Their HWK-290 has sustained heavy damage to its weapons and hyperdrive. They won’t make it back in one piece with their findings unless we scramble some fighter cover.
There’s a good bet the Empire has already dispatched fighters to intercept them too".
Pre-Mission Prep
We were joined by a new pilot for this mission. Longbottom joins us piloting the Y-Wing fighter. For his initial ship loadout, he chose an Ion Turret Cannon, Flechette Torpedoes and an R2 Astromech using the entirety of his initial XP pool.
The remaining pilots chose the following upgrades from their previous mission XP earnings:
- Aubringer : Shield Upgrade
- Blaque Jacques : Upgrade to Pilot Skill 3
- Eagle : Engine Upgrade, Upgrade to Pilot Skill 3
- Raven : Shield Upgrade
- Yolo : Engine Upgrade
Mission Action
With the addition of a third Y-Wing fighter, rounding out the Rebel forces out to six pilots, the Rebel pilots decide to form three teams of two pilots each consisting of one Y-Wing fighter and an X-Wing to support them. Eagle & Yolo, both having upgraded their engines decided to team up and charge straight through the center of the sector to get to the wounded HWK-290 as fast as possible. The heavily shielded and armed teams of Aubringer & Longbottom advanced on one side of the sector while Raven & Blaque Jacques advanced on the other.
At the start of the battle Empire Squads Alpha and Beta, consisting of 4 Tie-Fighters each, immediately headed towards the wounded HWK dealing enopugh damage to deplete 2 of its 6 shields. The HWK-290 flew away from the two Tie-Fighter squads as quickly as its guidance systems would allow while still being able to perform needed repairs.
The upgraded engines of Eagle and Yolo did their jobs as both pilots were able to approach the wounded HWK-290 in time to blanket it with double Protection. Both squads of Tie-Fighters continued to attack the HWK-290, but all damage was absorbed by the Protection granted by Eagle & Yolo, preventing any additional damage to the HWK-290.
At this point the Rebel pilots were close enough to engage, and force a formation break of the two Tie-Fighter squads. Attention was diverted away from the HWK-290 as the Empire forces engaged the Rebel pilots. The two factions exchanged much firepower with little damage being done to any side. As a massive dogfight was being played out the HWK-290 continued to sneak away, while an Elite Tie-Interceptor entered the sector behind Raven & Eagle. At this point Raven, with bloodlust in his eyes, performed skillfull maneuver after skillfull manuever managing to destroy three conecutive Tie-Fighters leaving his region of the sector clear of enemy fighters.
The fight raged one while another squad of Tie-Fighters approached near Aubringer & Longbottom. The new Tie-Fighters focused on the Y-Wing of Longbottom, depleting all of his shields and doing hull damage. There was doubt wether Longbottom would survive the fight as the Empire forces surrounded him.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the sector, Eagle, wishing to keep his Tie-Interceptor kill streak alive made an attack run towards the newly entered Elite Interceptor. Unfortunately the Interceptor made an unexpected manuever taking him away from the raging battle, and out of range of Eagle fire. It can only be assumed that the Interceptor was trying to halt the escape of the HWK-290, but at this point it was too late. Another short advanced allowed the HWK-290 to safely escape the sector.
Having lost their target all Empire forces broke off combat and retreated from the sector, leaving all rebel ships intact.
